Nursing home residents deserve adequate staffing levels
Adequate staffing is vital to nursing home residents and staff. Find out staffing levels at your nursing home and learn how to join the fight for stronger regulations.
Staffing - By the Numbers
As of April 1st, 2022, NY nursing homes are required to provide an average of 3.5 hours of hands-on care per resident per day.
This includes at least 2.2 hours of care from nurse aides and at least 1.1 hours from a licensed practical nurse or registered nurse.
The average facility only provided 3.3 hours of care per resident per day, with lower levels on the weekends.

Tell The Department of Health
NY Nursing Home Residents Deserve Sufficient Staffing EVERY DAY!
Nursing home residents need sufficient staffing levels every day, not just some days. Let the NY Department of Health (DOH) know that you oppose the proposed regulation that would measure compliance based on a quarterly average, rather than ensuring that a nursing home meets minimum standards every day.
Regulations must include a minimum penalty to hold employers accountable to improving care.
