Staffing - By the Numbers
As of April 1st, 2022, NY nursing homes are required to provide an average of 3.5 hours of hands-on care per resident per day.
This includes at least 2.2 hours of care from nurse aides and at least 1.1 hours from a licensed practical nurse or registered nurse.
The average facility only provided 3.3 hours of care per resident per day, with lower levels on the weekends.

Please note that if you have issues with staffing at your nursing home, you should first raise them with your supervisor and inform them that you feel there are not sufficient staff to provide the required resident care.
